My name is Rafia Shahnaz. I work as a political education trainer, consultant, facilitator, and supervisor. My professional approach is deeply informed by my education, work experience, and personal history.
Born and raised in Lahore, Pakistan, I migrated to Germany at 23 years of age, where I encountered different cultural and social experiences that enriched my perspective. My academic background in sociology and social work provided foundational insights into social issues, while my ongoing part-time studies in art therapy are expanding my understanding from a psychological perspective.
I have also honed my expertise through numerous training programs led by inspiring BIPoC and queer-feminist political educators such as Dileta Sequeira, Peggy Piesche, and Clementine E Burnley. These experiences equipped me with tools to deepen my understanding of the intersections between social and psychological issues and to explore how diverse and complex biographies are embedded within broader social dynamics.
Professionally, I have spent several years as a social worker supporting migrants and refugees. This work eventually led me to focus on political education and queer BIPoC community initiatives. Through this journey, I have developed as a diversity and empowerment trainer and consultant.
I believe that intersectionality and a process-oriented approach are essential for cultivating shared values and visions for sustainable collaboration. For me, effective and inclusive communication must be functional, sensitive to discrimination, and grounded in mutual respect.
I am guided by a belief in the transformative power of self-reflection, openness, and mindfulness. Each new encounter is an opportunity for growth and learning, and I look forward to continuing this journey of connection and transformation.
